Céad Mile Fáilte ~ A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

My name is Jodie I am mum to 6 children Bridgette 15, Twins Emma and Lily 13, Isabella 8, Liam 6 and Rebekah 3 years. Our Family is the first generation born in New Zealand on my Irish born husband. However his kiwi born mother’s family has resided in this local area for many generations. I have lived in this area since I was 2 years old only moving away for study. My family and I have strong Christian beliefs, all my values and work ethics all stem from that. I attend church weekly and I am a preschool kid’s church leader working with 3,4 and 5 year old, (we do not push our beliefs onto people unless of course you ask).  I have approximately 15 years’ experience working with children under 5 through various organizations I have been involved in, including Play Centre, Plunket and running my own home based child care business.  I have and open door policy please feel free to talk to me any time.

Educational Philosophy

As an Early Childhood Educator I believe I am responsible for providing babies, toddlers and preschoolers with positive learning experiences. I strive to model respect, patience, tolerance and care for both children and adults I am in contact with. I believe that children have the right to feel loved, safe and nurtured and have ALL of their needs met and receive age appropriate education.

As you can see from above I believe that family/whanau is this most important influence in a child’s learning and education. And I believe that as an educator my role is to partner with the parents/whanau to incorporate the child’s individual family, religious and cultural beliefs into their education. I believe that children learn best when they are encouraged to express themselves in a safe nurturing environment and that they learn early on to recognize their feelings and emotions.

I seek inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach and the Montessori Approach. And I believe that children benefit from practices that are research based.

My role as an educator is to provide stimulating and enriching activities and a rich environment where children feel safe to explore initiate play and activities of interest and that they be supported and encouraged to not only build on their strengths but their weaknesses too.

I base my planning on the interests of ALL children in my care and offer activities around those interests. I see each child as an individual and value the input of both the child and whanau to ensure I meet their needs. I seek to form a close relationship with ALL children under my care and their families.
