Kids at Home provides a complete service to assist with

preschool childcare.  We can help you:

  • identify your childcare needs
  • assess the financial implications of childcare
  • employ an educator or nanny (interview, Police-check potential educators/nannies and provide advice on contracts and pay rates)
  • access subsidies such as WINZ, Multiple Birth, 20 Hours ECE and our own Kids at Home subsidy

We provide:

  • a wage administration service e.g. taking care of ACC, Kiwi Saver, PAYE, student loan payments and any other employment-related issues
  • monthly visits from a qualified Early Childhood Teacher
  • ongoing assistance for both child and employment-related issues
  • a FREE toy and book library service
  • FREE weekly play and music groups and fortnightly gymnastics groups
  • FREE regular excursions

Once you have joined our service, a qualified Early Childhood Visiting Teacher will come to visit your children and their educator/nanny each month.  The purpose of these visits is to assist the educator/nanny in providing a quality, educational and fun environment for your children to thrive in. Our Visiting Teachers are all extremely experienced in child education and development.  Please feel free to ask them any questions you have regarding your child's development and learning.  They will contact your educator/nanny fortnightly and are available by phone during work hours for you or your educator/nanny to contact regarding any child-related questions.

Our office provides advice and information on all pay and employment-related issues – we are not experts, but we have a huge amount of experience in employing educators/nannies and processing pays.

We can help you find a suitable educator/nanny, or you may have everything in place already.

We even arrange your nanny's pay for you - taking care of ACC, Kiwi Saver, PAYE, student loan payments and any other employment-related issues.

We assess your eligibility for our FREE educational service and enrol you in our service (to be eligible, your educator/nanny must be over 18 and the home must comply with our Premises Safety Checklist.  (NB: all of our homebased educators/nannies are pre-approved and their homes have met our safety standards).  Primarily we are checking that the property is safe, has a fenced outdoor area for children to play and learn and all potential hazards to children are removed or guarded against e.g. heat guards around fire places and heating equipment.

How to join Kids at Home:

Families
We understand choosing a carer for your precious child is a very big decision and one which is taken very seriously.  Call us on 0800 543 728 and a Kids at Home Visiting Teacher or representative will discuss your requirements with you.  We can then help you complete our enrolment forms (which can be downloaded from our forms section.)  We'll give you the details of the educators and nannies that we feel best meet your requirements and then assist you in the process of meeting and choosing the perfect one for you!

Nannies and homebased educators
You can compete the Application Form from our Job Opportunities section and post it in to us.  We will then arrange to meet with you.   Once your application, interview, premises check and references have been completed we will put you forward for suitable positions.

What happens next?

Your Visiting Teacher will contact you to arrange a time to visit with you and your educator/nanny.  This visit will go over the Kids at Home programme in more depth and the Visiting Teacher will leave your child's Profile Book for you and your educator/nanny to record your child's learning. They will also provide other resources to assist you and your educator/nanny to enhance your child's learning and development.

Our Visiting Teacher will discuss an education plan for your child and encourage your child's educator/nanny to:-

  • notice significant learning opportunities for each child
  • recognise or analyse the specifics of that learning and how it links to Te Whaariki (New Zealand's early childhood curriculum, which we explain to you in plain English).
  • respond by making decisions about how to extend or move the learning to the next level.
  • in between each visit from your Visiting Teacher, your educator/nanny will be encouraged to record exciting  happenings and events in the Profile Book. Families and the children themselves are also encouraged to contribute to the Profile Books.
  • At each subsequent monthly visit, the Visiting Teacher will discuss play ideas, opportunities to enhance learning and ways to make the child's day more fun and educational. A selection of quality educational toys will be offered free of charge.
  • In addition to monthly home visits, our Visiting Teachers organise play groups, music groups, gymnastics groups and other outings.
